The day I started noticing my receding hairline and bald spot getting bigger, I embarked on my hair loss treatment journey. Untreated, gum disease can have serious health consequences that go far beyond the teeth and gums. The good news is that when caught in its early stages, gum disease - more accurately known as periodontitis - is highly treatable.

The most effective treatment for periodontitis is of course prevention. Conscientiously following a regiment of oral hygiene that includes brushing (at least twice daily, and preferably after every meal), flossing and use of anti-plaque dental rinse will go a long way towards preventing gum disease from developing in the first place.

This said, the most common treatment of periodontitis is root planing and curettage. Because peritonitis is caused by bacteria and the resulting build-up of plaque, the best first step is to simply remove the bacteria. Curettage is a fancy term for cleaning the teeth underneath the gum line. The periodontist (a dentist with specialized training in this area) uses a device called a curette to remove the bacteria and the plaque that is responsible for the inflammation. If this treatment is successful, the disease will be gone and the gum tissue will heal, reattaching itself to the tooth enamel.

If the disease has progressed and there are deep pockets left after the plaque has been cleaned out, a surgical procedure called gingivectomy, or removal of the damaged gum tissues. Gingivoplasty is another procedure used to reconstruct gums that are beyond healing. This may involve borrowing some tissue from the palate and is quite an involved procedure.

In a flap procedure, the gum tissue is actually lifted away from the surface of the tooth. This is performed for cases in which gum disease has affected the actual bone tissues underlying the gums. Once the gum tissue has been lifted, all plaque and infected tissue is removed and the bone actually reconstructed to look and function as it once did. Afterwards, the gum tissue is replaced and sutures are applied. Healing can take up to three weeks, and the patient should expect some pain and discomfort. Beyond this however, complications associated with this type of surgery are rare.

Patients who have been treated for gum disease may have antibiotics prescribed as well. Such antibiotic drugs should be used sparingly, however as bacteria is infamous for its ability to adapt, thus causing the antibiotic to lose its effectiveness; it is not a substitute for treatment and prevention.

With the rapid growth of laser hair removal centers, competition has spawned a number of clinics that offer services for a lot less than standard costs. In fact, the offers they come up with are at times preposterous. However, there are some clinics that stay true to their word and actually give good treatment for a little money. Here are two examples.

Their treatment is quite effective; in fact they offer a two-year guarantee after the final treatment. Their methods seem modern and reliable. However, established laser hair removal clinics and centers with good reputations hardly ever offer any discount fees. It is advisable to look for the affordable laser hair removal center with a proven track record rather than opt for one with the lowest cost. Clinics that exclusively cater to laser treatments, rather than those renting salon spaces, provide their clients with the guarantee of individual attention, experience and a competent, caring, professional staff.

Reuben St. Clair, the teacher protagonist in the book Pay It Forward, starts a movement with a voluntary, extra-credit assignment:

Trevor, a 12 year old student, thinks of an idea…

The 3 Vital Ingredients of The Abundance Puzzle
There are 2 things we’ll take from the story above and an additional one, based on The Small World Effect, that ties it all together and brings it full circle so that we get our rewards…

1. Viral Growth

This exponential thing isn’t something that was invented along with the Internet - it’s behind epidemics, whether they’re social movements, trends or diseases. Getting people to join your movement by passing things forward can create dramatic exposure and quickly.

2. Small Deeds that Seem Big

The idea that the deed only has to be “perceived as big” is the key to how you can give referrals, provide high value stuff and do seemingly huge favours without even thinking about the need for a payback… By the way, it’s important that you approach this without any expectation of a direct payback from the people you help - if you don’t you’ll be frustrated.

3. It’s a Small World

You’ve probably already heard of the, Small World Effect, 6 degrees of separation, or Kevin Bacon Game. They’re essentially telling us the same thing… It’s the idea that we are all linked to everyone else by 5 intermediaries or less. Recent theoretical work suggests that the number may or may not be 6, but it is certainly small not 100 for example.

Just think about it. If you know 300 people who each know 300 people who each know 300 people etc then it doesn’t take long to hit the whole population of earth within about 6 steps.

Keep these three things in mind and…

So let’s agree that everyone is linked by 6 steps or less. Doing favours and encouraging the recipients to act in the same way when dealing with others means that your reward will happen from unexpected sources and more quickly than you could imagine.

You’ll become a benefactor of the very thing you’ve started, only there will be far more good things coming your way than you initially set in motion. This is the combination of quick viral growth and a small world.

So, your marketing can relax from the usual and frustrating ‘what’s in it for me?’ approach to one where you feel good, look good and get rewarded naturally.

1. Always have skin care on mind, whether you are buying products for make up or actually applying them onto your skin after you have bought them. Also check if it contains high concentration chemicals that can harm your skin.

2. ‘Make up and skin care’ is also about testing the products before using them. So, apply the make up on a small patch of skin e.g. earlobes and check how your skin reacts to it.

3. Keep track of expiry date on your make up products and never use them beyond the expiry date. In fact some products (e.g. vitamin C based products), if not stored properly, get spoilt much earlier than the expiry date.

4. Cleanliness is an important part of make up and skin care procedure. Sharpen your eye-liners regularly and keep all your makeup equipment clean at all times. You might fix a date, each month, for overhauling of your equipment. As part of cleanliness, your make up and skin care procedure should also include keeping your hair clean at all times.

5. Nail care is another important aspect of make up and skin care. Use a good quality nail polish and always keep your nails clean. Once you are done with cleaning and polishing your nails, you should rub in cuticle oil at the edges of the nail.

6. If you have deep-set eyes, you should use a liquid eye liner instead of a pencil one. This will prevent smudging at the deep edges of your eye-lid.

7. If you have a skin disorder e.g. acne, you should not apply heavy or chemical based make up. Consult your dermatologist if you are not sure about the make up products that you can use while you have acne or other skin disorder. Never try to squeeze pimples/ acne. Remember that make up and skin care should not conflict each other.

8. Use a mild make up remover (instead of just washing it away).

9. Another important ‘make up and skin care’ procedure is the following golden rule: “Never sleep with your make up on”

10. While applying a deodorant, make sure that you maintain the recommended distance between the nozzle and your skin (as mentioned on the deodorant pack).

So, make up and skin care should always go hand in hand. Do not try to treat make up and skin care differently.
