Therefore, do not base your decision on price alone to decide between a front projection setup and a rear projection TV box.

Clearly, there is a market for both - the primary decisive factor should be your room size. If you don’t have a large viewing room, a 40″ to 60″ diagonal TV will probably be more than adequate rendering a rear projection TV the ideal affordable solution - as long as it fits in the available space.

Size - or rather unit depth - is becoming less of a problem with modern LCD and DLP rear projection TV units. A typical 52″ diagonal widescreen DLP or LCD rear projection TV set requires no more than 15-inches in depth; this contrasts heavily with a similar size CRT rear projection model which would normally require between 22 and 24 inches in depth.

If your room size does not support such big projections, rear projection is probably the way to go.

Viewing angles:

Rear projection TV systems used to have a rather limited viewing angle - with the optimum viewing position being one directly in front of and eye-level with the unit. Move away to either side, and color, contrast, and brightness will degrade substantially. A narrow viewing angle will limit the number of people who can watch the set due the lowering in picture quality at the extreme viewing angles. Most modern systems support a viewing angle of circa 150 degrees - which should be adequate for normal home theater use. However, it is always best to check on this prior to your purchase as some products are worse than others.

Reflections:

It is common that any light source at a complementary angle to your viewing-angle will result in glare - in particular if the unit makes use of a screen-saver (a clear protective material that covers the fragile screen itself). Glare can seriously degrade the picture quality. The only real solution is to take away the offending light source; in some cases the situation can improve if one removes the screen-saver - BUT remember that an unprotected screen is fragile and expensive to replace if damaged.

Floor-space:

Any rear projection TV is literally a large box with a relatively large footprint. It is true that modern slim-type models do exist that are no more than 15 to 18 inches in depth - depending on the screen size, yet the cheaper CRT-based rear projection TV sets will stand out by at least 24 to even 30 inches to allow for the necessary air-space between the back of the unit and the wall.

Remember to take this into your calculations when planning your home theater as these two feet or so will have to be deducted from your available viewing distance.

Rear Projection TV Speakers:

Forget all about them! Do not give any weighting to the speaker system coming with your rear projection unit. You would not be using them as you will surely want to replace these with your dedicated home theater surround receiver speaker system.

Do not even think of using the build-in speakers of your rear television set as a center channel replacement. They will just interfere with the sound coming out of your dedicated system - hence do not pay anything extra for this as you will surely be switching off your TV sound completely during a movie show.

Aspect ratios:

We have already mentioned a number of limitations associated with rear projection television, yet in comparison, these are just minor issues. The real serious limitation with a rear projection TV is aspect ratio management.

This is the trickiest of it all. Standard television comes only in 4:3 but rear projection TV systems come in both standard 4:3, and in the 16:9 widescreen format. Once you choose your format however, you have to live with it - so once again, you have to choose wisely.

The 4:3 (1.33) or 16:9 (1.78) referred to as the aspect ratio, is the ratio of the screen width with respect to the height of the image. All standard non-HDTV material is in the 4:3 format while most modern films come in one of the many widescreen formats - the most common being the 2.35, which in itself is not compatible with any of the fixed aspect ratio TV systems.

There are various ways to deal with this - including:

• Image stretching to fill the available screen.
• Use of black or gray bars on top and bottom of a 4:3 screen to show the movie in its correct aspect ratio as originally filmed, but then the effective film display will be smaller.
• Pan and scan editing where only the most important portion of each frame is shown with the rest being discarded.

Image stretching and horizontal bars can be extremely irritating while in the ‘pan and scan’ you are giving up film information to have a full screen view. Worst of all, prolonged use of horizontal bars - especially black bars - leads to tube burn-out in CRT based systems at huge costs to you.

The incompatibility between screen formats renders the decision on aspect ratio a rather complicated issue when choosing a rear projection TV set. Surely, there is no such dilemma with a front projection setup, but if your only way forward is rear projection, then you will have to choose wisely.

Here no one can help you in your decision - it is simply a matter of preference. The best way to decide on aspect ratio is by first determining what you will be viewing most.

Making the Choice:

Surely, there is a market for both front and rear projection TVs - it is all a question of knowing what are the advantages and limitations of each with respect to your specific needs.

9 - Batman Begins

DC has come back with a vengeance not seen since Richard Pryor stole all those pennies in Superman III. Batman begins the battle anew between Marvel and DC for superhero supremacy. The battle lines are drawn in film as they were in the comic books, with Marvel going for flash and action, while DC opting for more depth and struggle. Bruce Wayne is superbly played by Christian Bale who knows how to play dark (see The Machinist). Although I feel that Katie Holmes actually detracted from the movie, you get a sense that big things are in store for our caped crusader.

8 - Wedding Crashers

This is the movie that for the rest of the year, all other comedies tried to compare itself to. I loved Vince Vaugn who, as a character role, has had a hit or miss kind of career. He does it this time as he pairs up with Owen Wilson to deliver a performance reminiscent of Swingers (the all-time sensitive guy movie). Christopher Walken was also a great addition to the cast, as the stodgy old father. A definite must see.

7 - King Kong

How good is a movie where the title character only shows up an hour in and all the other characters are one dimensional? Under Peter Jackson, the master of all things fantasy, this movie was simply incredible.

6 - Serenity

Science fiction is all about new worlds, and new ideas. Here is a movie that fused some of the old west frontier town with space ships and kung-fu. May sound crazy but it all works well together. The main characters are simply a bunch of smugglers that are being chased by a government special assassin, since one of their former stowaway’s may have top secret information locked in her brain. Given the success of the movie after the cancelled television series, comparison to Star Trek was inevitable. We hope this one becomes a new franchise ourselves.

5 - Skeleton Key

Can’t have a movie nowadays made in New Orleans without their being some voodoo. Seems like most of the people down there either practise it, or stay away from it from the simple fact that they believe in it. Do you believe?

4 - Saw 2

Very difficult to best the original movie for this type of film. Most of the suspense came from the not knowing and never having seen events like what transpired in the first movie. This latest edition weaves a slightly more intricate tale that involve a father and son with an ending that is sure to keep you talking after the movie has ended.

3 - Million Dollar Baby

Hillary Swank surrounded by 2 much older men. Not my idea of exiting. But this movie does a great job in getting emotion out of the audience. You feel determined as she was to become something, as angry as she should have been toward her family, and the fondness she felt for her old trainer. This movie is packed full of emotion, it’s what a movie should be.

2 - Hotel Rwanda

This is a story that needed to be told. A tragedy so terrible that it’s message needed to came out so as to help prevent those events from ever happening again. We look at those people, all of us black or white, as simple Africans living in the dirt. This movie made them human, made us weep and suffer with them for their plight.

This movie was not just one of the best of 2005, but one of the all-time classic movies of its time. Taking a European slant with slowing weaving different stories and characters until they came together a various points near the end, every scene, every segment is worth watching, worth commenting on. Wills are legal documents that a person uses to declare how he or she wishes his property to be disposed of when he or she dies. In most cases wills are written out, signed and attested to, or more commonly known as witnessed to. In the past, the law stated that wills could only dispose of real property, or land, and a testament disposed of personal property. Today, wills are referred to as the last will and testament and it deals with both real and personal property.

There are various types of wills that people could have. One such will is a joint will. More than one person with each testator executes this will, as the person who makes a will is called, leaving his property to the survivor or to other persons. The second type of will is a mutual will. Mutual wills the testators agree that each shall be the beneficiary under the other’s will.

Execution Of Wills

It is recommended that people have lawyers draw up your will. If a person wishes to draw up the will him or herself they can do so but it is likely that they will overlook something. If something is overlooked then it the execution of the will might be difficult. The will itself may be invalid.

When the will is written up there must be someone there to witness or attest to the will. The witness must sign in he presence of the person writing the will and all other witnesses. Once wills have been signed and witnessed they cannot be changed without having the witnesses present.

When a person dies there are several things that much happen before a will can go into effect. The will itself must be probated. What this means is that it must be proven to be that last will and testament of the deceased. The executor of the will carries out the last wishes of the deceased. This may need to be done in court or it may not. Anyone may contest a will and in order to do this they must appear in court.
