Lady Forte-You and Me

Filed under: Entertaining You — @ 5:29 am

Artist: Lady Forte
Title: You and Me
Genre: Jazz-R & B-Pop
Label: Excalibur Records
Website: http://www.fortecarter.com

Forte Carter is the author of a classic jazz-pop vocal style. In the manner of legendary vocalists such as Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan, she gives her golden vocal chords a tasteful workout with a solid new album titled You and Me.

I think covering time-tested standards was a very good idea for Lady Forte. Her voice is well suited for these great tunes. Her rendition of “God Bless The Child” is gorgeous and heartfelt every step of the way. “Lola” is my favorite tune on the album. She sounds so sultry and in command. You will be a believer once you hear the song that Lola always gets what she wants so does Ms. Carter evidently. She hits some incredibly high notes during the course of this recording. If you can remember the old Memorex commercial where Ella Fitzgerald breaks a wine glass with her amazingly high ranges, then you can understand the kind of range you will hear repeatedly on this CD.

Just as there is a great woman behind any great man, there is a great band behind any great singer. There is no exception to that rule here. The Carter orchestra featuring Arc Sano (piano) provides the superb accompaniment for the lady on every track. You may say that this is yet another cover CD and you have heard all of these songs hundreds of times - well it is not your typical album. Think for a minute how beautiful and meaningful all of these songs are. If performed properly they always sound so wonderful no matter how many times you hear them. All of the songs receive the most care and excellence by this talented vocalist.

With beautiful music and vocals, this is a real slice of the divine for you to absorb, body and soul. If you like quality music and a songbird that does each individual track the justice it deserves, wait until you hear this album, it will knock your socks off.

Native American Drums - Secrets of the Tarahumara

Filed under: Entertaining You — @ 11:53 pm

The best kept secret for Native drums, anyone interested in affordable authentic Native American drums should consider is the superior sound and value of Tarahumara ceremonial drums. Hand made in primitive tradition, with hand bent pine hoops and genuine hand laced rawhide, they are beautiful and perfect for drumming circles, school music classes and as canvases for Native American art projects.

The world renouned Tarahumara Indians of the Sierra Madre mountain range inhabit a nearly inaccessible region of the copper canyon area bearing their name, Sierra Tarahumara. Today the Tarahumara live in caves and rock out-cropping as well as in small wood and stone cabins in remote areas. Said to be North America’s most primitive people, they live a simple life without modern technology. The Tarahumara use the drums as a call to gather the people. On a clear night during their festivals, you can hear the sound of these Native American drums drifting throughout the mountain villages for miles.

Tarahumara drums play an important part in the preservation of their culture. As they have done for generations before them the modern Tarahumara make their drums in the old way. Fashioned by hand, a piece of native yellow pine is carefully sought after with just the right characteristics. Once the proper piece is selected, it is shaved to a thickness which allows it to be bent into the shape of the drum hoop. Securing the two ends together with rawhide or now days, heavy gauge wire, the hoop is ready. For the heads, heavy goat skin rawhide is selected and soaked until soft and workable. Once the hide has been scraped clean it is stretched over the drum ring and laced with matching rawhide. Then the still soft and wet drum is allowed to slowly air dry causing the rawhide to tighten around the hoop frame. Goat skin rawhide is thin and durable providing a very strong tone for drumming. Anyone desiring a Native made, natural hide drum would enjoy the rich tone and culture of the Tarahumara drums.

If you are fortunate enough to own one of the traditional Native American drums of the Tarahumara, you know what a thunderous sound they can produce. If you are not familiar with Tarahumara drums or if you have never used a natural hide drum, it is important to understand how they respond to their environment.

Natural rawhide drums loosen in times of humidity and tighten when heated. The native people heat the drums in front of a fire before using, to ensure maximum sound quality. The tighter the hide, the stronger the sound will be. In a modern setting, a hair dryer is the quickest and easiest way to dry a drum for use. Simply start in the center and work toward the edges of the drum. It only takes two minutes, restores the hide to the proper tension and can be repeated as often as necessary to be enjoyed for many years.

DUI Defense

Filed under: The Lawyers Way — @ 11:41 am

There are several defenses available to people who are accused of driving under the influence. Since the prosecution has the burden of proving each and every element of the case beyond a reasonable doubt, the defendant need only create reasonable doubt in one area in order to prevail against a drunk driving charge.

A person is not necessarily guilty if the machine says he is above the legal limit. There are many defenses to DUI or DWI cases, and these should be explored before even considering pleading guilty to DUI or a related drunk-driving offense.

It is usually legal to drink and drive, but if the driver is under the influence then it becomes illegal. In different states, under the influence is defined differently, but generally it refers to those cases in which the driver is drunk or has taken drugs to such an extent that that his mental and physical abilities are impaired and they no longer have the ability to operate the vehicle with the caution characteristic of a sober person under the same or similar circumstances.

Defense to the criminal charges may arise from different areas, and consultation with a DUI defense lawyer is critical to determine which may apply in a given case.

Other defenses relate to the reliability of the chemical test results. Some people, for example, are simply not suitable candidates for breath testing due to dental problems, which trap alcohol in the mouth and create falsely high breath test results. Others suffer from medical conditions such as persistent heartburn (GERD), which can cause falsely high readings in breath tests. It takes between a millionth and a billionth of a fluid ounce of alcohol to register a .10 on the breath test machines. This is above the legal limit in every state, and can result in a criminal conviction unless fully explored by a qualified DUI or DWI defense lawyer.

Wrongful Death - Has It Happened To Your Loved One?

Filed under: The Lawyers Way — @ 4:52 pm

Each year, many people are faced with the loss of a loved one that somehow just doesn’t add up. Once you get through your grief and the facts begin to come together, you may think that someone made a mistake that cost you your loved one. If you feel that wrongful death may have happened to someone you know and love, then you have every right in the world to pursue it.

Knowing what to do is the key here. It is best not to go after anyone yourself, but to allow your attorney to do this. If you do not have one, contact several and ask for help. You will need to meet with them, tell them about your situation and why you think wrongful death happened. They can then help you to determine if in fact this is true. From this point, you can choose the attorney that fills your needs the best and depending on whether or not they believe you have a case, move forward.

More than likely, the attorney will handle most of the fact finding as well as the lawsuit for you. You are likely needed to provide the information that you know and to assist them at trial. More than that, you will not need to do in most cases. Because you are putting so much trust into this lawyer, you need to make sure that you trust him or her. You need to know that they will do the very best to find out what actually happened and to make sure that if it was wrongful death that someone is punished. More importantly, they will help to make sure that wrongful death does not happen again to someone else’s loved one. Wrongful death is wasted life.

Digital Video Camera Rental: Putting You in the Picture

Filed under: Product Info — @ 12:03 am

Digital video cameras continue to be as popular as ever. As they become more technologically sophisticated they’re offering better quality and more functions in ever smaller packages. Top-of-the-range, high definition videocams can cost in excess of $3000 to buy. This figure would be even higher if existing mechanisms, which allow HD videos to be recorded on a conventional DV tape, couldn not be used.

It’s hardly surprising, then, that digital video camera rental is fast becoming the preferred option for digital videocam users who only need to use the equipment for special occasions. With improvements in the technology moving fast, so fast that chances are a new model will already have been superseded by something better within six months, the trend to rent and not to buy seems set to continue.

As an irregular user, looking to take pictures at weddings or on holiday, constantly upgrading your digital videocam is neither a practical, nor cost-effective solution. Why not, then, get the best of both worlds - the latest models and the lowest prices - by choosing the rental option? Your biggest worry will be to pre-book well in advance at busy times of the year, like Christmas and New Year or Thanksgiving, to avoid disappointment. Look in the Yellow Pages or login to the internet, and you’ll find there are some great deals to be had out there.

Great offers are available if you shop around. At Christmas and New Year, especially, extended and weekend rental bargains are to be had provided, as we’ve said, you book early. Throughout the year, even, many digital video camera rental outlets will offer an extra free rental day, and, at short notice, many shops will pull together a video camera package at very competitive prices.

The basic rental package, usually comprises spare batteries, charger, camcorder case, manufacturer’s manual and a “quick-start” guide. Ease of use varies with the model, but the “Get Started” guide you should receive as part of the package will outline use of the main controls of On/Off, record and zoom buttons. A manual should also be supplied should you feel like exploring more options in detail.

Alternatively, as an infrequent user of digital camcorders, you will find that many rental outlets offer a photo printing or video transfer service, copying your film on to CD or DVD. Again, shop around for the best deals if you’re interested in a complete service. Even with this service charge added to the hire cost, on any cost-benefit analysis you’ll be getting a great deal.

Besides the basic package, optional extras are available. Accessories, such as tripods, external microphones and camcorder lights, though, are not seen as optional extras for many users who want to shoot that perfect picture for the perfect occasion. You will pay an extra hire charge for these items, as you will for video tapes and mini-DVD-Rs. The software to download your photos on to your PC will usually be included in the hire package, though. This software is very popular now and has largely replaced still photos on memory cards. Rent and you’ll get the best for less.

Having decided that digital video camera rental is for you, the most important question to ask yourself before you proceed any further is: what do I want from a digital camcorder? Do I want a cheaper, standard format videocam, or would I prefer a high definition video?

Standard models use compact, 60-minute tapes, and can be plugged into the camcorder/playstation inputs on the front of many TVs and video recorders. The playback quality is very good. As a rule of thumb with standard models, the smaller the camera the fewer features it has. You want a larger optical zoom? Then you’ll need to hire one of the slightly larger cameras. Even so, none is that big and all are easy to use for the novice.

But are you more technically-minded? If so, then an HD videocam, offering superb playback quality with four times the number of pixels as standard definition, would allow you to shoot a video of a wedding and edit the video on HDV. Be aware, though, that a very powerful PC is required to use video editing packages. The HDV footage can then be recorded on to a high definition DVD player with marvellous results.

Europe lags behind the U.S. where we have been able to enjoy high definition TV, and watch content from most of the major networks, for a number of years. Familiarity with the superb picture quality afforded by HD breeds contempt among aficionados for standard models. Renting a videocam allows the technically-minded to practise more demanding techniques and to produce top-class pictures without the substantial outlay involved in buying a top-notch videocam. And remember: as a perfectionist, you’ll need accessories, too, which makes renting an even more attractive option.

So, novice or enthusiast, renting the equipment makes the best sense. The videocam’s obsolescence, driven by continual improvements in technology, requires constant and expensive upgrading. The very high cost of buying top-of-the-range videocams, together with the easy availability of great-deal packages, including accessories, all make compelling reasons for renting and not buying.

“A picture is worth a thousand words”, so they say. Well, not quite, but it will have been worth reading a few hundred if you’re now sold on the benefits of digital video camera rental.

All about Gambling Saloon Games: the Gambling Pastimes Betting Devotees like to Participate in

Filed under: Betting, Great Gambling Stuff, Hall Of Recreation — @ 12:28 am

starluck casino bonus

Assuming you gaming establishment card-playing, do read on…

For clarification, a gaming hall is a building that presents gambling. Guests can take a risk at the coin operated machines or alternative pastimes of luck. Gaming establishment games routinely include ovious percentages governing them which maintain that the establishment maintains dominion versus the clients.

Numerous betting house games can sway you into getting habituated rapidly. Let’s meditate on the notorious slotmachine, a coin operated appliance with 3 or more cylinders that swivel when an arm coupled to it is started. The appliance most often will spill winnings with reference to an array of emblems perceptible on the screen of the machine. Regretfully, gaming hall games put forward the delusion of influence, thus conning the patron — the victim is provided with options, but they will not eliminate the customer’s longterm odds. That is induced by the betting establishment never repaying the full stake as hoped for. This arrangement is regularly seen at work in well-known casino games like five card stud, craps, roulette or blackjack.

Seven card stud is a very an incredibly fashionable casino pastime. The gamers, playing with partially obscured hands, must place bets in a principal pot that is ultimately bestowed onto the winning gamer retaining the leading hand. (And yes, the shameless bluffing hand can win as well!)

Resembling stud poker, blackjack is also an immensely popular casino pastime. A considerable chunk of its fame is thanks to its peculiar mix of luck and savvy and choice making, as well as a method labeled Card Counting. It is a particularly complex technique through which gambling buffs are in a position to significantly switch the chances of the game to render them an advantage by both betting & strategic decisions according to the cards shown.

Craps is a extremely popular pastime based on the roll of dice. Gamesters bet on the score of one roll, or on a succession of rolls on 2 dice. Contrary to blackjack, there isn’t any realistic long term killer strategy punters could employ to ramp up the odds.

Roulette is another eminently popular casino based pastime: a croupier turns a roulette wheel that contains a set of thirty-seven (European roulette) or, alternatively thirtyeight (Vegas roulette) independently marked slots in which the rolling pellet must settle, thus defining the winner When a gamester has bet on a number which makes it big i.e. it’s their lucky day, the set remuneration will be thirty-five to one, the original stake itself is paid out. Therefore in totality it is multiplied by thirty-six.

Please try to be emphatically on the lookout however, as all of these gaming establishment pastimes should be considered massively habituating. Too many lives have been damaged due to inordinate gambling + much as it surely may be fun, do your best to restrain your wagers.

Rabbit Ears: The Perfect Post-Easter Gift

Filed under: Product Info — @ 11:05 am

Easter came this year and you may have hunted for decorated eggs, had a nice brunch, or exchanged little chocolate bunnies, all of which are quite nifty.

But you missed out if you didn’t buy yourself some rabbit ears.

Happily, it’s not too late.

For those of you who have grown up with cable and satellite TV, you may not know what I’m talking about.

Rabbit ears are those adjustable metal rods that come out of a ball-like base that squats on or near your TV set in order to improve reception. Along with rooftop antennas, they’re what households used before the advent of cable and satellite TV.

Admittedly, the clarity they bring is less than perfect, but heck, if you’re looking to dump that cable or satellite TV provider; they’re just what you need.

I bought my rabbit ears at the 99 Cent Store, and I can’t tell you how happy I am.

I am getting about 25 stations for FREE. Compare this to paying anywhere from $39 to $69 a month for what is dubiously called, “America’s Top 30″ or “America’s Top 50″ by one of the satellite firms.

Their channels are no better than what my ears and I are pulling out of the air.

If you’ve been reading my articles with any regularity, you know I’ve been “unplugging” from needless technology, especially that which requires an outflow of money on a subscription basis.

There are some exceptions, such as Major League Baseball, which I can get on my laptop or my PC.

But I found the customer service at the cable and satellite firms so abysmal, and the quality of their programs so low, that I decided to take action.

If you can’t summon the gumption to go completely TV-less, try rabbit ears, and tell your friends.

When you tune in that first free show, you’re going to be in for a thrill!
